2016 Epic Road Trip - Day 81

Day 81
Aug 2, 2016
Iskut, BC to Stewart, BC & Hyder, AK

This was another day of driving about 200 miles and seeing non-stop mountains, lakes, and uninhabited wilderness.  Breathtakingly beautiful.

Glacier in August.
Miles and miles of wilderness, although I did see 3 bears (but not those 3 Bears!) along the way.

More miles of wilderness and mosquitoes squashed on the windshield.  Got a few birds, too. I think I am up to 4 birds now....

Bear Glacier on the Glacier road to Stewart, BC.
Glacial runoff in a swift stream.

Through a canyon with the stream beside the road.

Remnants of the old Hyder settlement from the 1800s; not much left except pilings in the water.
This is the remains of an old roadhouse.
4 stone storage buildings were built in Hyder in the 1800s to house supplies for the miners.  After they were built, the boundaries were set for Canadian territory and Alaska territory. Two warehouses ended up on the Alaska side and two on the Canadian side of the boundary.
Hyder, Alaska, which is just over the border from Stewart, BC
Approaching Customs station.
Blue glacial water in the stream.
