Epic Road Trip # 2 - Day 26

3/24/2014 - Lordsburg, NM - Brownfield, TX

Today we travelled from Lordsburg, NM to Hach, NM (Chili Capital of the World) and bought some amazing fresh chilis, oregano, garlic and shelled pecans.

Then it was off to Roswell, NM to check out the aliens. It was kind of a let down, but the drive was pretty. We have managed to see a lot of beautiful scenery on this trip. Before we got to Roswell, we stopped at White Sands Missile Range, so I could walk down memory lane as I was stationed there from 1982 - 1984. A lot has changed but much is still the same. A nice stop for me.

An interesting roadside information sign on the way to Alamogordo, NM.

Finally we continued our trip east and eventually called it a day in Brownfield, TX.

Tomorrow we continue east through the great big state of Texas.

Epic Road Trip # 2 - Day 19

3/17/14 - Gallup, NM to Williams, AZ

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

We started off early this morning from Gallup, NM following Route 66 west. The morning was extremely cold....32 degrees, however by mid afternoon it was in the low 70's. The bummer of the day was the unrelenting wind. Each time we stopped to check out a place or a potential hotel, the locals told us that this windy weather is normal for the Spring...I hope so, otherwise the riders are going to have their work cut out for them.
BTW the locals call it windy, I call it gale force....

A sight along the way...Fort a Courage, AZ

A Navajo 'Hogan' - a traditional native house that is used for spiritual ceremonies

Our route takes us right through the Petrified Forest National Park! It is awesome.
