Day 34 - 7/16/13 - Missoula, MT - Cambridge, ID

Day 34 - 7/16/13 - Missoula, MT - Cambridge, ID

Today is the day that Marnie and I begin the conclusion of the 2013 Epic Vacation Road Trip. Today ventured to Nez Perce National Historic Battlefield, Idaho. But before we got there we ended up traveling ID Route 12 up and over Lolo Pass and Lochsa Lodge and Three Rivers...all places we had been to on the Cross Country Trip. It seemed like we would never get to the Nez Perce site. But, alas we did.

"We did not travel here;
we are of this land.
We did not declare our independence;
  we have always been free."
                                                           -Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee

The stories of the Nez Perce tell us that they have been part of this landscape since time immemorial; they have always been here. Nez Perce National Historical Park commemorates the contributions the Nez Perce have made and help protect and preserve sites, stories, and artifacts associated with their history and culture.
The Nez Perce made hunting bows from the horn of the Big Horn Sheep, an animal that is native to their homeland.

Horses came into Nez Perce country about the 1730s and the Nez Perce became well known for their large herds of fine horses. The Nez Perce practiced selective breeding to obtain the traits of intelligence, endurance, and speed.

Then it was back into the truck and we headed toward Hagerman Fossil Beds, Hagerman, ID, but we only made it as far as Cambridge, ID before I couldn't drive anymore. I was tired! We ended up at the Frontier Motel...we read the sign and knew it would be a great place!
